safe natural fabrics for baby
are very important

Independent research has found that using synthetic fibre clothing and bedding products can result in undesirably higher body temperatures and irregular heartbeats.

This is a major reason why natural fibres have become the product of choice for discerning customers.

We use only the best merino wool sourced from high country farms in the South Island and then entirely processed in NZ and coloured using ecofriendly dyes.

new zealand merino wool

Pure merino wool from New Zealand is the world's most exclusive natural fibre and is as scarce as cashmere.

The merino fibre is the finest fibre in the world. It is renowned for its natural elasticity, lustre, resilience, density, strength, warmth and softness. Because of these features it is a superb fabric for clothing newborn babies.

merino wool is highly valued because it

garment sizing

The following dimensions/weights have been used to determine the garment sizes listed on this site. These are taken from the 90% percentile range of babies from the standard growth charts (see pdf links below). These sizings have been adopted so that the fittings are "generous" as babies grow so quickly. Premature or extra large babies may fall outside these ranges.

If you would like to be certain that the size is appropriate for your baby then please email and we will send you the actual garment dimensions.

eco friendly dyes

All Weebits babywear garments are dyed using eco friendly low-impact fibre-reactive dyes. Unlike conventional dyes, these dyes contain no heavy metals or other known toxic substances.

Weebits choose low-impact fibre-reactive dyes because it allows us to offer a wide range of colors, while being environmentally conscious. If you are very sensitive to chemicals, you should buy our range of undyed clothes.

Low-impact fibre-reactive dyes are synthetic dyes that chemically bond directly to the clothes fibre molecules. This results in less water run off due to the fixation rate being up to 70%. Although having been around since 1956, they have recently undergone some major advances which have resulted in brighter colors and better colorfast properties.

You might be aware of some of the health problems and environmental concerns associated with traditional synthetic clothes dyes, conventional dyes that omit toxic chemicals into our bodies and into our waterways. Health problems can include skin rashes, headaches, nausea, and more. One of the major environmental issues with traditional synthetic clothes dyes is the amount of water used to process them, as well as the pollution of that water.
